Why College Students Must Blog

Posted on January 24, 2016 by anuj
Blogging is getting great exposure all over the world. There are many blogs online that show the reality of money that they earn through blogging. Many people scare to blog as they've got no time for blogging or they think that spending time in it is not worth.

Is there any right time to start a Blog ? Honestly there's no right time or wrong time to start a blog. Any small kid with good writing skills and little technical knowledge can start a blog.Read on to know why students need to blog when they are in college.

There are many college students in India that pursue various degrees. Most popular being the engineering field. It's easy for an engineer to blog as being in technical field.Blogging also requires technical knowledge and there's a lot to share if you have free time apart from your study schedule for blogging.

Read On: Harsh Agarwal's article on "Why Engineering Students Should Blog" on ShoutMeLoud.

There are many government and private universities where students pursue their high school, graduation and post-graduation degrees.A student who is doing well in one subject can also help other students all round the world who are facing difficulties in same subject.Or he can share something or the other in which he has experimented or done a group project.

If you have excellent Entrepreneur skills, you can also start a company right from college since it's easy to find people who can contribute and help promotion. At school and college level creativity is out of the box. Moreover thinking out of the box always helps going from bottom to top.

We all know what blogging is.If  you don't know then you can check out my article on 'Why blogging'.Many bloggers have proved that blogging can be done on a professional level. It can give you all the benefits that you get from a job.In India there's a long list of bloggers who are successful in blogging and are from engineering stream.

This does not mean that other stream students cannot blog. There are many niche websites such as medical, arts, science, writing, poetry are popular as well.My brother Shantanu Nagdeote is a poet and is a good writer. He has a website 'Palace Of Poetry' where he publishes his poems. You can check it out here.

Having engineering background only helps in many know how and it's easier to setup a blog on technology as it's a broad niche and there are many topics to select from such as security, software, gadgets, gaming, reviews, coding and many more.

Tips For becoming a successful blogger:

  • Have Passion and interest in Blogging.
  • Take inspiration from other bloggers.
  • Visit your competitors' website to see which topic or keyword gets more clicks.
  • If you create a blog solving many people's question, you will end up having a high traffic on your website.
  • Be honest with your content.
  • Have patience and research for different sharing ideas you can do to share your posts.

So that's it guys please do share the article if you've liked it or found it useful.Do post your comments below.

Why Blogging

Posted on January 24, 2016 by anuj
If you are new to blogging or want to start a blog, then this article is for you.

Blogging is a global platform where a person can share experiences, knowledge, interests, portfolio, and many things. It has given many people the power express their ideas, creativity and to setup an online business in an easy way.If you have a passion for blogging, you can make it as your full-time profession and earn money from it.

Every person in this world is unique.Everyone has their own skill set which are not possessed or have in common with others. In this age of technology getting information is very easy. There are a ton of websites on the Internet that are based on some topic or subject that might help the website readers to learn something from.

Almost any person can blog.It can be a housewife, a teacher,an employee,a banker,a lawyer to name a few.Even college students can blog. It's based upon your will whether you want to keep your knowledge classified or want to share with others.

People start blogging for various reasons. Some for passion, for earning money, for showcasing their articles, stories and achievements.

If you start blogging with only sole purpose of earning money then let me tell you that it's not easy.To earn money through blogging, you have to monetise your blog and most importantly you need to have an adequate number of followers.Only when your website traffic is high there's a chance of getting paid by the advertising networks.

If you want to blog for long term,do it passionately.Because unless you love blogging, you will not get many readers. The fun and enthusiastic you feel while writing an article, the more interested the user will be to read it.

There are many platforms to start your own blog/website.Sites like blogger,WordPress, tumblr, typepad help you to create a blog for low cost. You can also create video blogs on YouTube.

I started blogging because I like to help people and to share what I've learned.I selected tech niche which is a generic one and there are many similar sites. So getting traffic is a bit tough. But I don't care because I'm passionate about technology and love writing it.

Always love and do whatever you like.Don't just select a niche for clicks. If you do that, you would eventually end up having no traffic and your google ranking will go down.

Be honest with your content.Do not copy content from other websites as Google's algorithm will cross check all the keywords and accordingly places the rank for the page. So,honesty is important.

Take Inspiration from bloggers who took blogging as their hobby to becoming full-time bloggers.
Bloggers such as Harsh Agarwal,Pat Flynn are some to inspire from.

Happy Blogging !!!

Thank you for reading the article.Let me know if you liked it and have any questions regarding blogging.Do share it on social media if you found it helpful.

What is Li-Fi

Posted on January 19, 2016 by anuj

We know what Wi-Fi is...the technology without which the current way of digital communication is not possible.

There's a new concept discovered by Prof. Harald Haas i.e. data that can be transmitted through light waves. The concept of light which is used to transmit internet data is coined "Li-Fi".

Before going to Li-Fi,here's some information on Wi-Fi:
Dr.John O' Sullivan
Wi-Fi was accidentally discovered in 1992 by Australian electrical engineer and Astronomer Dr.John O' Sullivan through a failed experiment to detect exploding mini black holes.

Without Wi-Fi,current way of mobile life would be different.Wi-Fi currently makes upto 60% of global internet traffic.Wi-Fi has undoubtedly revolutionized the way of communication.Wi-Fi signals are Radio waves that transmit from an access point.

Most common device used for Wi-Fi broadcasting are "Wireless Routers".

'A wireless router is a device that performs the functions of a router but also includes the functions of a wireless access point. It is commonly used to provide access to the Internet or a computer
network. It does not require a wired link, as the connection is made wirelessly, via radio waves.'

Routers with different bandwidth such as 1.5 GHz, 2.5 GHz antennas provide much more coverage (range) and bandwidth.

Wi-Fi has certain issues,

1. All the devices connected to access point do not receive the same bandwidth. It is sketchy at times due to varying signal.

2. It is not totally secure as the access point's signal can travel through walls and can be easily picked up by strangers

Now let's see what Li-Fi is :

As the name goes Li-Fi transmits signals through light waves.Light is perfect because it is a part of electromagnetic spectrum just like radio waves but at much higher frequency. Also light waves cycle much faster than radio waves.

Prof. Harald Haas,Chair of Mobile Communications at University of Edinburgh is the inventor of Li-Fi and co-founder of pureLiFi.

Light's frequency range is 10,000 times than radio waves going upto 790 THz which is maximum of 300 GHz for radio waves.High frequency equal's high data rate.Light also has the capacity to transmit vastly more pulses of data in much less time than radio waves.

Here is the Ted Talk where Prof. Harald Haas demonstrates Li-Fi :

How does Li-Fi work ?

Visible light is easier to focus in one area, which makes it possible to put a lot of data in Li-Fi signal. Li-Fi uses inexpensive LED bulbs that can be switched On-Off very quickly. (Light ON and OFF is binary code). So quickly that a human eye cannot detect it.The flickering contains 1's and 0's that is signalled to the receiver.

Special receivers (such as photo diode), connected to computer can translate this flickering into actual data.Light waves are also less susceptible to interference than radio waves.

Does it work in  real life ?

Yes !
Researchers have reached speed up to 10 Gbps in lab conditions.Researchers at Oxford University achieved much higher speeds of 224 Gbps which is 200 times faster than Google's fiber connection.
It has been deployed in commercial products and is working successfully.

Advantages :

  • Privacy -- as light cannot penetrate through walls no signal will be received by the person sitting in other room.
  • Security -- No one can snoop on network traffic as the snoopers/hackers have to be in the same room.
  • Impossible to eavesdrop on wireless signal from outside.
  • Affordability and Power saving -- Li-Fi uses inexpensive LED bulbs that consumes less power than Wi-Fi access point.
  • The transmitter (bulb) can be dimmed to reduce bandwidth.

Limitations :

  • Signals get disrupted by excessive light pollution.
  • Signals do not reach the person sitting in the next room.
  • Still in experimental stage.
Here's another Ted Talk Of Li-Fi's demonstration by Prof. Harald Haas :

    Conclusion :

We would be seeing very cheap and light-powered internet everywhere in future. This technology will easily lead Internet Of Things (IoT) becoming a reality, a platform where every device will communicate with each other.

If Li-Fi becomes widely available,it would be a turning point in the technological revolution where internet and transfer of information will no longer be an obstacle for an average user.

    Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Review

Posted on January 08, 2016 by anuj
Microsoft Surface Pro 4,Microsoft's latest piece of hardware which is a phenomenal and a beautiful device is finally launching in India. It's one of the best tablet-cum-laptop offering which is not only attractive but also functional.Flagged as a "true laptop killer" or "Tablet that can replace your laptop",the surface pro 4 really wins the race in terms of benchmarks in comparison with Apple's iPad Pro.(To some extent) and it's predecessor Surface Pro 3.

    Overview:

The Surface Pro 4 packs all the goodness and hardware of a full x86 computer into a tablet form factor that can run Windows OS seamlessly. It has all the features that it's predecessor Surface pro 3 has but in a better way.

    Display:

"An Amazing Screen"...The 12.3” PixelSense Full HD Display has extremely high contrast and low glare so you can work through the day without straining your eyes.

Unlike the Surface Pro 3 which had screen resolution of 2160 x 1440,The Surface Pro 4's screen packs a resolution of 2736 x 1824 which is an uncommon resolution when compared to laptops with 4k or 1080p resolution in the market. Both have the same 267 PPI which Microsoft believes is perfect resolution when using laptop at the right distance.Altogether it's an amazing screen, better than Surface Pro 3.Web browsing and productivity at 100% or 200% scaling does not affect system performance and looks gorgeous.

Aspect Ratio is 3:2 ; It has 10-point Multitouch capacity

    Surface Pen:

There's a new surface pen included with SP4,based on PixelSense technology. It has an eraser on the end of it. The new pen has 1,024 levels of pressure sensitivity and attaches magnetically to the side of the Surface Pro 4 when not in use. It comes in a variety of colors and even has Cortana integration: you can activate Microsoft's voice assistant by holding the button on the stylus. The most stunning thing is that it has all-year battery life.

But it has no on-the-spot calibration settings or configuration settings for right hand and left hand use, like the most of the tablets in this form factor do.It has a good tactile feel compared to last gen's pen and the tip is interchangeable, feels more like writing with a lead pencil.

    Keyboard:

The keyboard of the surface pro is better than the last years' one.Note that the keyboard is sold separately. The trackpad is bigger and is made of glass.Color of the trackpad is identical to the keys giving it a premium look. The keys are placed at even distances and is easier to type, don't wobble from side-to-side,feels a lot better.Keyboard has the same connector to connect the tablet that also can be used with Surface Pro 3.

In addition, there's also a finger-print sensor beside the trackpad for an extraprice. It's of minimum use as windows uses it only for logging in and it does not work well with 3rd party Apps.

    Performance,Specs and Build Quality:

Weight of Surface Pro 3 and 4 are exactly the same. But in terms of handling, the Surface Pro 4 feels lighter because the weight of  inner components is equally distributed all over the surface.

The form factor of both the devices is almost same but the Surface pro 4 is thinner. The Surface Pro 3 is 9.1 mm thick and Surface Pro 4 is 8.5 mm thick. This was  possible as the Surface Pro 4 variants are powered by Skylake processors in Core M3,i5 and i7 variants and use "Vapour cooling technology" to dissipate the heat.

As they have the latest generation of Skylake processors, performance wise, they have improved when compared to Surface Pro 3's Haswell processors. When not used with power plugged in,the Surface Pro 4 tends to thermal throttle when using heavy applications like Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop.

    Battery Life :

According to Microsoft, the battery lasts all day.Was tested by 9 hrs of videop layback until the battery is completely discharged. So,in day to day usage it would last all day long.

    Connectivity and Expansion slots:

For expansion, the Surface Pro 4 comes with full size USB 3.0 port,Charging Port,Micro display port, cover port,3.5 mm headset jack,Surface connect and a microSD card slot at the back for memory expansion.

Additionally, there's also a USB charging port on the powerbrick.

    802.11ac Wi-Fi wireless networking; IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n compatible,Bluetooth 4.0 wireless technology.

    Camera and Audio:

It houses two cameras on either side, the front being 5 MP with 1080p HD video and the rear being 8 MP auto-focus with 1080p HD video quality.Great for video conference and taking pictures.Windows Hello face-authentication camera (front-facing) Stereo microphones,Stereo speakers with Dolby® audio

Sensors such as Ambient Light Sensor,Accelerator and Gyroscope are included.

    Conclusion:

This is overall the best laptop/tablet running Windows available by Microsoft. It's small, lightweight, portable, performs exceptionally, runs office and windows apps perfectly, has amazing camera, looks cool and is a mobile workstation. It's great for users who travel a lot and need a powerful tablet with laptop usability and experience.

Note that the type cover and keyboard are sold separately.
